President Boric after meeting with Xi Jinping: “We will continue to strengthen the ties that unite us with China”

President gabriel boric this Saturday addressed the bilateral meeting he had with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC). The President indicated that the country will continue to “strengthen ties” with China.

“I met with the President of China, Xi Jinping, when we reviewed our bilateral relationship, highlighting the progress made in trade, climate change, cultural exchange, scientific cooperation, and technological development with a focus on sustainability,” Boric said from Thailand, after the end of APEC.

“We share an idea that seems very interesting to me, that China has installed in the world debate, of being a modestly prosperous country,” added the head of state.

“I want to say that we are going to continue the ties that unite us with China, not only in commercial matters, but also in the field of cultural, historical, social action, in order to learn more about this ancient culture and to better understand how it is today. the world running,” he continued.

“In this context, we have received with pleasure and pride the invitation that the President of China has made us to visit his country next year and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs we are going to coordinate to be able to carry out this visit and strengthen the Chilean presence precisely in Asia,” said the President.

Let us remember that President Boric met with Xi Jinping on Friday. In this context, the Chinese President invited Boric to visit China in 2023.

Regarding the Comprehensive and Progressive Treaty for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP, better known as TPP11), the head of state recalled “it will be a full party to the treaty from the end of this year or the beginning of next year and China has submitted a request for entry and We tell you that it is in our will to support China’s entry into this treaty.”

He also highlighted that “I had the opportunity to talk with other leaders and advance in the promotion of investments. Canada, Australia, Japan and Vietnam are all countries with which we maintain active trade and they told me that they will continue to invest in Chile, a country whom they see with very good eyes”.

He also revealed that Chile will sign a Supplementary Protocol on Services with Indonesia, a country that is also a member of APEC, in the coming days. “This Protocol will allow both countries to mutually serve as export and import platforms for the flow of services in their respective regions,” he explained.

“Indonesia will be able to benefit from new trade opportunities stemming from Chile’s extensive FTA network and Chile’s close economic ties with the rest of the Latin American countries. On the other hand, Chile will benefit from Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia. Boric commented.
