MEXICO CITY, Mexico.- Orbit.SA the company, which was authorized in February 2022 to manage remittances arriving on the island, presents a suspicious connection with its predecessor, the sanctioned (and part of GAESA) FINCIMEX SA.

As revealed by a recent investigation of Project InventoryOrbit, which was a ghost until a few months ago, is now beginning to have a physical and online presence. With the peculiarity that it operates not only with employees that come from Fincimix. It also shares practically the same geographical location with the entity: its office is next to another of Fincimex, in the Miramar neighborhood.

That’s not all: close to orbit there are at least seven other properties with offices and dependencies of FINCIMEX SA, according to the aforementioned investigation. Another of the findings of the independent medium is that the remittance sending websites promoted by Orbit (www.enviodinero.com and www.moneyexchange.es) are the same ones that FINCIMEX SA previously used

Inventory also corroborated that at least two of its current employees have been employees of the GAESA entity. One of them is Annia Pérez Mederos, the person who appears in the registry of the domain name “orbit.cu” before CUBANIC as the Financial Contact of Orbit SA The other name corresponds to who was the Legal Advisor of Financiera CIMEX SA”, Jorge Mateo Rojas Navy.

How did we go from Fincimex to Orbit?

Founded on February 3, 2020, Orbit SA received approval from the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) to “manage and process international transfers.” Which made it the substitute for Fincimex (the financial arm of the military conglomerate GAESA).

On October 27, 2020, OFAC introduced a modification to the Regulations for the Control of Cuban Assets with the objective of “denying the Cuban Government access to funds related to the sending of remittances.” FINCIMEX, since it was already restricted, was out of business.

In this context, Orbit SA enters, which was not targeted by the sanctions and could operate freely. Supposedly Orbit was alien to GAESA.
