Colombian government and ELN resume peace talks in Caracas

This Monday, November 21, the delegations of the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) will resume peace talks in Caracas.

This was reported by Danilo Rueda, High Commissioner for Peace appointed by New Granada President Gustavo Petro, through a message posted on his account on the social network Twitter.

According to the statement posted through social networks, these dialogues are part of the efforts of the new Colombian government to “advance in a process of peace and full construction of democracy.”

Resumption of a long-awaited process

This new beginning of the negotiations arose after the meeting held in the Venezuelan capital on October 4 where, at a press conference, the parties formally announced that this process would be restarted, which had been suspended by former President Gustavo Petro, who was opposed to These conversations began in February 2017 in Quito, during the government of then President Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018).

According to Colombian media publications, the members of the Colombian delegation will be led by Otty Patiño, a former member of the M-19 and former constituent of 1991, while the ELN will be led by Pablo Beltrán, signatory of the statement issued by the businessmen.
