“A candle of hope” is the initiative promoted by the Mothers of April Association (AMA) in memory of the victims of state repression and in demand for the freedom of the more than 200 political prisoners in Nicaragua.
The activity will take place this coming Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, and consists of each family member of those killed in the 2018 protests and political prisoners, as well as opponents, lighting a candle next to a photograph of an inmate politician and demand justice for the crimes against humanity committed by the Nicaraguan regime.

AMA points out that the activity is in solidarity with “all those families who suffer separation and loss due to forced and economic exile.”
“Our resistance and hope lead us to justice! We maintain hope in justice,” said the Association through a Twitter account.
For her part, one of the AMA representatives told Article 66 that as direct relatives of the repression, they support the fight and demand of the relatives of the political prisoners for an end to the torture and repression in the different prisons of the country.
“We want that this Christmas all political prisoners be released or that they give the right to visit the opponents who are locked up in” El Nuevo Chipote “, the source said.

According to human rights organizations, to date the Nicaraguan dictatorship holds captive in the different prisons of the country more than 220 prisoners of conscience, among them Catholic priests.
The detained opponents have been held incommunicado for 84 days. They are being held at the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua, a detention center where hostages are subjected to torture.
