Santo Domingo.- Violence continues to gain ground, hindering the tranquility of the population with more than 308 homicides so far this year, a large part of them are registered after 12:00 at night, surpassing the statistics of the last five years, according to the Ministry of Interior and Police.
The most recent statistics, up to the present month of November, confirm that 308 homicides had been registered this year, a figure that exceeds the 236 that occurred in 2020 when the country was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Based on these reports the Ministry of Interior and Police On November 7 of this year, through a resolution, it prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages after 12:00 at night in the province of Santo Domingo until 8:00 in the morning to preserve security.
Interior and Police continue to explain that in 2018 homicides reached 243 cases; 2019 rose to 276 and in 2021 they ended the lives of 294 people.
The greatest increase in homicides is observed in Santo Domingo Este, where in 2021 there were 110 cases, but so far in 2022, 108 people have lost their lives as victims of homicides.
In Santo domingo norte also crime and violence have hit residents with 51 homicides in 2018; 66 in 2019; 36 in 2020; 73 in 2021 and 94 so far this year.
Likewise, in Santo Domingo Oeste, death has reached the neighborhoods, taking the lives of 36 people in 2018; 46 in 2019; Even in 2020, with everything and closure due to the pandemic, the trend in this municipality continued with 43 registered homicides, a figure that was repeated last year, falling so far from 2022 to 26.
Something similar happened in Los Alcarrizos, where there is a trend that continues with 22 homicides in 2018, 31 in 2019, 27 in 2020, 35 in 2021 and this year it follows the same route with 30 cases until November 14. .
The community of Pedro Brand, Santo Domingo Westhas not escaped the crime wave and registered 10 homicides in 2018, 12 in 2019, 13 in 2020, 2021 was the one with the fewest cases with 6 and so far this year it has already reached an average of 11 deaths for this cause .
In the tourist area of Boca Chica, in 2018 there were 28 homicides, 23 in 2019, 21 in 2020, maintaining the trend as in SDO, in 2021 it dropped to 20, but so far this year it has increased to 39.
While in San Antonio de Guerra total control has been achieved, going from 12 homicides in 2018 to none so far in 2022.
It is important to highlight that in the places intervened through the Comprehensive Citizen Security Strategy “My Safe Country”, when comparing 2021 with this year, as of November 14 in Santo Domingo Oeste, homicides have dropped to zero, in Santo Domingo Este only 2, for an improvement of 67%, and in Santo Domingo Norte 3, for an improvement of 57%. While in Boca Chica there were two deaths from this cause for an increase of 100%.
Agreement
It was reported that the Ministry of Interior and Police has taken appropriate steps to regularize the consumption of alcoholic beverages and is currently in a consultation and consensus process, within which an agreement is expected to be signed next Tuesday with the owners of bars and restaurants from the different municipalities of the Santo Domingo province, expanding to the entire national territory.
