After a month and a half of the murder of 5-year-old Gabriel G., authorities sentenced his father, responsible for the crime, to 45 years in prison.
In the sentence, the judge stressed that this would be the first time in Colombia that a conviction for vicarious violence has been determined; that is to say, the maximum expression of gender violence, in which, through the murder of his own son, he caused irreparable damage to his ex-partner.
The investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office determined that the 50-year-old man picked up his son at the house where he lived with his mother on October 1.
Later, he transferred him to a hotel in Melgar where he took his life.

He was captured hours after committing the murder, trying to bribe traffic policemen who stopped him between Melgar and Girardot.
At the time, Gabriel G. accepted the charges in the middle of the impeachment hearing, where he assured that he had taken his son’s life.
The minor would have been suffocated for revenge against his mother, after ending the relationship.
They also indicated that the subject planned the murder for several months, but that he was only able to execute it the weekend that he had custody of the little boy.
