After a first week avoiding setbacks, the National Statistics Office (ONE) expects the execution of the X National Population and Housing Census enter the rhythm of productivity in the lagging provinces during this weekend.
Specifically, the provinces affected by some mishaps have been La Altagracia, Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata and San Cristobal. In the last two, the situation has already normalized, as reported by Miosotis Rivas, director of the ONE.
“We are focused on the fact that this weekend we can make an effort to change and achieve (the goal) on the 23rd”Rivas specified.
Although she did not take it for granted, but the servant indicated that, if necessary, the ONE could extend the days of Census in some demarcations where coverage recovery will be implemented, a process that was described as normal and that has been implemented in countries where censuses were recently conducted, such as Costa Rica and Paraguay.
This Friday night, Rivas presented to the president Luis Abinader and more than 10 ministers and directors a report of the executions of the national census, in which approximately 35,000 people work.
Despite the obstacles, Rivas maintained that there are 26 provinces that are above 50% of their goal. Although he clarified that this point could vary, because the pollsters could find a greater volume than what was registered in the cartographic survey carried out in 2021.
Provinces with more progress
The bulletin of the ONE this Friday shows that the most advanced provinces in the Census national are Elías Piña, Sánchez Ramírez, Bahoruco, Montecristi and Santiago Rodríguez. While the slowest are those with the largest population such as Santo Domingo and La Altagracia.

With the aim of guaranteeing coverage for the entire population of the country, including those living with some type of disability such as hearing, the ONE received support from the Institute for the Training of Sign Language Interpreters (Infoiles), which will accompany interviewers to the dwellings in which sign language interpretation will be necessary.
The ONE reported that, between Wednesday the 16th and Friday the 18th, three training processes were carried out for sign language and deaf interpreters.
