The causes of these investigations are given for alleged non-compliance with safety and health regulations at work and for the possible refusal to negotiate with the union.

Rappi could be infringing the norms of the rights of association and collective bargaining, in light of conventions 87 and 98 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which examines different behaviors of broad national significance due to their social or economic impact.

The vice minister of labor relations in Colombia referred to the issue from his Twitter account: “IWe inform that we have opened an investigation against Rappi Colombia for ALLEGED refusal to negotiate.”

It should be noted that in the middle of this year, Rappi recognized the union that its “independent distributors can generate twice the earnings per hour” than an employee with the legal minimum wage (about $212 per month).

worker voices

Jhonniell Colina, a delivery man of Venezuelan origin and vice president of the Union of Platform Workers of Colombia (UnidApp), presented a proposal a few weeks ago that seeks to improve conditions in his union.

The proposal was brought before the National Planning Department asking that the government of Gustavo Petro intervene.

The proposal is aimed at platform workers having a space with fair rates, without blockades and social security among other requests.

MinTrabajo puts the magnifying glass

Now, the same minister Gloria Inés Ramírez, from the official Twitter page of the MinTrabajo ratified the investigation.

Stating that: “The silence in the face of the complaints is over and that the labor rights of workers be respected«.

Currently in Colombia, it is estimated that there are more than 10,000 rappitenderos and a large part of them are foreigners, migrants who have not found other job options.

What in some cases has also been requested is that it be established that outside of the platform, there are no people who ‘manage’ several households and charge for giving them motorcycles and mobile phones, among other things.
