The proprietary member of the Superior Council of the Comptroller General of the Republic, Marisol Castillo Bellido, presented her resignation to the Nicaraguan National Assembly. The position she held since April 2014. The entity is valued as inoperative due to the null control and investigation functions of State institutions that are accused of being corrupt.
«With great sorrow in my feelings I am communicating my decision to present my resignation from the position of proprietary member of the Superior Council of the General Comptroller of the Republic. At this point, I need to dedicate more time to my family and to postponed tasks, feeling the satisfaction of having fulfilled my duty”, refers to the letter dated November 15 published on the Legislative Branch website, which was addressed to Loria Raquel Dixon Brautigham, deputy and first secretary of the National Assembly.

Castillo also extended her gratitude to the National Assembly and the people of Nicaragua for having allowed her to serve both in the Supreme Electoral Council as a substitute magistrate and in the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
«This service, which has been a substantial part of my life, has allowed me to strengthen myself academically and in life itself. Our country Nicaragua, despite all the difficulties, has evolved institutionally and I feel proud to have participated in that process. There will be many problems ahead but the new generations are already replacing us,” said the former official.
«I cannot fail to mention my gratitude to my grandparents and my parents who were fundamental in who I am today. A Nicaraguan woman from a liberal and Sandinista family, that is our story. This is how our beloved Nicaragua has been formed,” adds Castillo, wife of Lenín Cerna, who was recently sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury for acting as an advisor to Daniel Ortega.
Cerna was sanctioned for being considered “a close confidant” of the Sandinista president, involved in numerous cases of murder and torture when he was head of State Security in the 1980s, the Treasury said.
The former comptroller was part of the last stage of the institution designated to acquire a large percentage of the General Budget of the Republic to avoid any type of control. She was also a magistrate of the Electoral Power between 2000 and 2014, where she arrived as part of the party quota that Ortega achieved in his distribution of State powers with former President Arnoldo Alemán (1997-2002).
At that stage, he teamed up with other officials such as the late former president of the Supreme Electoral Council, Roberto Rivas Reyes, José Luis Villavicencio, and Emiliano Enríquez, among others.
