Alexander Astesiano, the former custodian of President Luis Lacalle Pou, offered the use of The Guardian, the wiretapping system of the Ministry of the Interior that must be accessed only with a judicial authorization. In parallel, the prosecutor Gabriela Fosatti investigates in depth the use that Astesiano had of that tool.

From the prosecutor’s office, his spokesman, Javier Benech, said this Thursday afternoon that “there is no certainty” that the ex-custodian has used The Guardian. Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior denies that it has done so.

The Observer confirmed that Astesiano offered its use. For its part, MVD Noticias reported this Thursday that the former custodian resorted to El Guardian illegally and with complicity of police officers, to compare telephone numbers at the request of an Argentine businessman. The message integrates chats that were recovered by the Scientific Police and that were disclosed by La Diaria.

In another vein, the prosecution’s investigation was able to prove that Astesiano had access to the Unified Command Center (CCU) of the police, where the calls to 911 enter and the public video surveillance camera system, which belongs to the Ministry of the Interior, is monitored. There is a CCU office in the Executive Tower that the former custodian accessed, among other things for his security tasks, reported The Observer.

The Ministry of the Interior released a statement this Thursday night in which it stated that “the system by which legal interceptions are carried out gives full guarantees that only through the intervention of a prosecutor and a competent judge can wiretapping be carried out.” telephone companies, requesting the telecommunications operators to execute the measures ordered by judicial order”.

“Therefore, it is impossible for there to be an interception without the intervention of a judge and prosecutor (…) suggesting, mentioning or affirming that there are legal interceptions without a warrant is totally false,” the ministry said.
