This Thursday, the albums by the rock group Síntesis and the pianist Chucho Valdés received the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards in their respective categories.
Síntesis, one of the most recognized and innovative Cuban groups, which has a sustained trajectory for decades, triumphed in the category of best folkloric album for symphonic ancestors. On this album X Alfonso and his sister Eme pay homage to their parents Carlos Alfonso and Ele Valdés, members of the group’s history.
Symphonic Ancestors it had the collaboration of the teacher Leo Brouwer and the researcher Natalia Bolívar as adviser of Afro-Cuban religions.
Chucho Valdés, one of the best pianists in the world and winner of previous editions of the Latin Grammys and the Grammys, was awarded along with Eliane Elias and Chick Corea in the category of best Latin jazz/jazz album for Mirror Mirror.
Aymée Nuviola and Gonzalo Rubalcaba also received awards in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category for the duo album Live in Marciac.
For Nuviola, this is her fourth nomination and her second award at the Latin Grammys. In 2014 she was nominated in the Best Salsa Album category for her album First class to Havana.
Four years later he won the award for Best Tropical Fusion Album for like a glove. the year I followediente was nominated again for A Journey Through Cuban Musicin the Best Traditional Tropical Album category, with which he also won a Grammy Award (2020).
