Colombian Prosecutor's Office suspends all arrest warrants for ELN spokesmen

Through a statement, the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office reported that as of this Thursday, “each and every one of the arrest warrants, including those issued for extradition purposes, against the people that the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro… recognized as authorized representatives of the National Liberation Army (ELN) to participate in the Dialogue Table that the National Government will resume with that organization in Caracas (Venezuela)”.

The text indicates that it is a measure “based on the principle of harmonious collaboration between public powers, provided for in article 113 of the Political Constitution; and in attention to the constitutional mandate that says that peace is a right and a duty of obligatory fulfillment».

The statement from the judicial body lists that “the suspension of the arrest warrants will be effective on the citizens: Nicolás Rodríguez Bautista, Pablo Beltrán, Aureliano Carbonell, Bernardo Téllez, Gustavo Martínez, Consuelo Tapias, Silvana Guerrero, Isabel Torres, Óscar Serrano, Vivian Henao, Ricardo Pérez, Cataleya Jiménez, Eduin Restrepo, Américo Trespalacios, Manuela Márquez, Mauricio Iguarán and Simón Babón”, ELN spokespersons for the dialogues agreed to start in Caracas on November 21.

It is worth remembering that it was also in Caracas, specifically in La Casonawhere after more than three years and nine months the Colombian State and the ELN met again to restart the dialogues interrupted by the former president of New Granada Iván Duque.

The statement from the New Granada Prosecutor’s Office also highlights that the provisions of Resolution 00825 of 2022; same as referred to in the bulletin, “will be communicated to the judicial police authorities of the national and international order, including Interpol, for the purpose of immediate and strict compliance

The text also points out that with such resolution, “the Attorney General of the Nation (of Colombia), Francisco Barbosa Delgado, reaffirms the commitment that he has publicly expressed to work from the institutional level and with full use of the powers that assist him in the entity to achieve peace.
