The Frente Amplio senator, former Vice President of the Republic and two times Minister of Economy, Danil Astori, resigned from his seat in the Chamber of Senators after not being able to attend for a long time due to severe health problems.
After his resignation, read in the courtroom, he said that he is leaving “with a lot of pain” and that he will not stop being “a political actor.” The Senate voted and officially accepted the resignation.
The now ex-front legislator has not been able to recover from a health condition. “I have suffered a very complex respiratory infection that I contracted in mid-2020 and that caused a significant decrease in my physical capacity, in addition to the need to undergo complicated treatments to which I have had to dedicate a lot of time and effort,” explained the senator. . “Aware of having been elected to the position, I have been dedicating a lot of time and energy to overcome the aforementioned limitations and I continue to do so today. A politician with history
Danilo Astori was Vice President of the José Mujica government, between 2010 and 2015, after having been Minister of Economy in the previous government, the first of Tabaré Vázquez, and returned to that position when the latter returned after Mujica.
Earlier, in 1989, he had also been a candidate for the vice presidency when General Líber Seregni was running, heading, by mutual agreement, in this case, all the Senate lists of the different groups of the coalition.
