Judge dictates 30 months of preventive detention against Alejandro Sánchez Sánchez

Judge Víctor Zúñiga today ordered 30 months of preventive detention against the fugitive businessman accused of being part of the criminal organization headed by President Pedro Castillo that distributes works and public positions.

Zúñiga partly accepted the request of the special team led by prosecutor Marita Barreto, who had requested 36 months in detention, and ordered made up of businessman Abel Cabrera and former advisor to the Ministry of Housing, Salatiel Marrufo.

The magistrate warned that events involving Sánchez Sánchez, who is accused of being the financier of Castillo’s campaign in 2021, have been corroborated.

For example, he indicated that it has been verified that the person being investigated was a mediator for the mining businessman Ulises Solís to get him an interview with Castillo only two days after promising him that meeting, on September 16, 2021.

In addition, he recalled that the former Vice Minister of Housing, Elizabeth Añaños, revealed that in 2021 she was taken to an apartment in Surquillo for a secret meeting where the businessman was together with other people close to the president who were interested in works in the sector.

In this sense, the judge stressed that Sánchez acts surreptitiously to fulfill his duties.

The magistrate also indicated that there is a risk of flight because the owner of the house in Sarratea was not found in any of his homes when preliminary arrest was ordered, last October, and because it remains as none.

Speak from hiding

At the end of the allegations, Alejandro Sánchez participated via videoconference. He was in a room, he was wearing a light blue polo shirt, a hat, and behind him there was a window that revealed some trees.

During his speech, he justified his escape. “I decided not to turn myself in to the Prosecutor’s Office because I have not committed a crime, it is natural to protect ourselves (…) I am forced to remain hidden due to this persecution without cause or reason,” he said.

Likewise, he said that the effective collaborators who point out that he has interceded in the hiring of personnel do not show proof.

“When I made the contributions to the party they say that they are of unknown origin; It is lawful to make contributions to parties, up to 400,000 soles if I am not mistaken, I have never been involved in acts of corruption, I have had a dignified life, I deny the accusations against me, ”he declared.
