The construction sector could be paralyzed due to the deportations of Haitians, since more than 80 percent of the country’s construction depends on this workforce, he said yesterday. Although he understands that it is necessary for there to be regularization of foreigners in the country, but with slightly more flexible mechanisms, as the organization has suggested, especially for workers in this sector.

“The construction sector is more than 80 percent dependent on foreign labor. The development of the sector depends on Haitian labor, but it does have to be regularized. We agree with regularizing,” said the president of copymecom.

He said that the current regularization measures must be reviewed, because there are some that have been applied, but in the end their results are not so extensive.

He added that in the construction sector it is necessary to look for efficient mechanisms to Dominicanize the workforce, because this is a very vulnerable sector.

“You have to find a way to work to Dominicanize the workforce. The 80/20 quota of article 137 of the Labor Code is being violated all the time,” said Cristopher.

The president of Copymecom offered these statements after referring to presidential decree number 668-22, on a series of measures to prevent and prosecute invasions and irregular occupations of private property and property. Conditionwhich he described as positive.

He said that if the private sector sees that there is invasion on adjoining land where they intend to build a work, then they decide not to invest due to the problems that this situation entails.

He stated that small construction companies to develop a project have to do it in an orderly manner and complying with all the legalities of the regulations but, nevertheless, these unscrupulous people get into private land the wrong way and in weeks they build a city, without no type of guarantee.
