¿Por qué en el censo dominicano no se pregunta la nacionalidad? Ministro Economía responde

One of the reasons why the census does not ask citizens about their nationality It is because it does not correspond to the purpose of collecting the data, which is done throughout the Dominican Republic via the National Statistics Office (ONE) this year.

The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd), responded to the question during the Corripio Communications Group Lunch, and specified that nationality is a legal issue, and said questions on this matter are not contemplated in the form.

«No questions are asked about nationality; they have never been done,” the official said.

Last Tuesday, the director general of the ONE, Miosotis Rivas, explained the reasons for asking about ethnic self-perception in the Tenth National Population and Housing Census that takes place in the country.

Rivas explained during an interview on the Uno Más Uno program, which is broadcast on Teleantillas, channel 2, that question number 64 of the questionnaire applied by the enumerators refers to the self-perception of people, that is, if they identify themselves as white, black or mulatto; he added that this question is asked of all citizens and not of a specific ethnic group.

He added that this action only seeks to give context to public policies that are applied in the future and in turn to article 39 of the Constitution.

What does article 39 of the Dominican Constitution say?

«Article 39.– Equality right.
