More than 50 families from the town of La Cruz accessed houses in Mevir

Authorities from the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (MVOT) and Mevir handed over, this Tuesday the 15th, the keys to 51 traditionally built housing solutions in La Cruz, department of Florida. There will live more than 190 people whose average age is 30 years and linked, for the most part, to rural work in the area. The complex will bear the name of former mayor Andrés Arocena.

The inauguration of both the 37 clustered homes in the plan and the 14 dispersed on private land was attended by the Minister and Undersecretary of Housing, Irene Moreira and Tabaré Hackenbruch, respectively; the president of Mevir, Juan Pablo Delgado; the head of the State Railroad Administration (AFE), José Pedro Pollak, and the mayor of Florida, Guillermo López.

The event also included a folkloric show from Sodre, whose objective is to spread culture throughout the country, which was possible thanks to an agreement between the artistic company and Mevir.

In his oratory, Moreira pointed out the importance of these inaugurations for the town and the roots of its inhabitants and highlighted the work of Mevir, by promoting the sense of belonging in different parts of the national territory.

Likewise, he specified that the work with other State agencies and with the different levels of government is essential to obtain greater achievements and better housing solutions for those who need it most.

“Today the construction and fellowship stage ends, but another fundamental one begins, which is to give life to these houses, fill them with moments and experiences, to turn them into true homes,” he claimed.

Delgado, meanwhile, explained that the complex covers some 3,000 square meters and includes 37 houses, with between one and four bedrooms, in which 190 people whose average age is 30 will live.

He also explained that Mevir bought the land from AFE for social purposes and in order to activate the local economy. In addition, he indicated that in the last rendering of accounts an article was incorporated that allows Mevir to acquire AFE properties at 50% less than the appraisal value and through expedited procedures.

On the other hand, he highlighted the figure of former mayor Andrés Arocena, highlighted his political career and his link with the local community. “This is a tribute to him and, in his name, to all the mayors, for the inter-institutional work between Mevir and the departmental governments,” he said.

Participating families received a kit of energy efficiency supplies, donated by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, and led lamps, offered by UTE, through agreements to promote the construction of sustainable communities.
