Rome, (EFE).- The Italian authorities today arrested a nun for giving “brutal” beatings to the children of the boarding school that he ran, while three others are being investigated, thanks to the fact that one of the minors managed to record it and report it.
The Naples Prosecutor’s Office (south) ordered this Wednesday to intervene the Santa Maria della Providenza religious institute in the municipality of Casamicciola Terme, on the island of Ischia, which welcomes minors waiting to be adopted or under guardianship for different reasons.
The investigation began upon receiving a recording from a minor in which one of the nuns is seen slapping a 4-year-old boy, pulling his hair “forcefully” and assaulting his 8-year-old brother, who was treating to defend him.
Prosecutors accuse the nuns, including the mother superior, of crimes such as child abuse, injuries and violence, all aggravated by “the conditions of physical and mental inferiority” of the victims and for occurring inside an educational center.
One of the nuns has ended up in preventive prison for “the brutality exercised”, according to a statement from the Carabineros (militarized police) body.
The other three will be prohibited from staying in the territory of the Campania region.
