The reason for this meeting convened by “Ayuí Meeting Point” was to talk about current events and challenges of human rights.
“We are summoned by a theme and summoned by a person: Felipe Michelini. In some way we wanted to have this gesture of recognition loaded with affection but also loaded with projects that we built with Felipe and many others in the world of human rights”, said Javier Miranda, who acted as moderator.
Mirtha Guianze, for her part, stated: “I am from another generation. Undoubtedly I did not meet him at that time of the rioters of 1983, many of whom I know and the things they did at that time, but afterwards I always talked with Felipe because he had ideas as well as to set up the Human Rights Institution”. And he added “he was fermental, he was always thinking, he was not a person who talked or that you saw him as excited, he was calm but he provoked tenderness. He always raised his calm ideas, we argued because we did not agree, but always in a simple way ».
Petit, meanwhile, who also traveled the road with Michelini said “wow, there are things that Felipe left and I highlight the last conversation I had with him. I wasn’t friends with him in the sense of going out together but we always had a good connection in college. He was the person who always crossed my path and one of the last talks we had was with the idea of the Ministry of Justice ”
“Part of this call was to talk about human rights and I knew that he had that concern. I have the WhatsApp that he sent me and I searched for this meeting. He had very clear ideas about that and he would have been a fundamental figure in these times to promote that, which is still a pending matter, ”he added.
For the exhibitors, Uruguay is committed to the promotion and protection of Human Rights but “black holes” persist where they express concern about it. These issues range from living conditions in prisons, current crimes and the number of people deprived of liberty that currently exist in the country.
