After consumers filed several complaints, for a television promotion carried out by a supermarket and pharmacy chain, and that when filling out the respective booklet they were informed that they were not available, the Authority for the Protection of Consumers and Defense of Competition (Acodeco ) ordered the suspension of the advertisement.
Acodeco reported that this promotion began on October 14, 2022 and runs until December 31, 2022 or until stocks of 12,626 units are exhausted, whichever occurs first. However, they received complaints because consumers have completed the primers and there are no televisions available, therefore, the files have been transferred to the Consumer Investigation Department of this entity.
The promotion “Turn on Football Take a 4K Smart TV” is promoted by the Rey, Romero, Mr. Precio Metroplus and Farma Ahorro stores.
Officials of the Veracity of Advertising Unit, in response to the complaints received, carried out the corresponding verifications, in the reported premises, to process the process presented by the affected consumers.
Law 45 of 2007, article 58, on truthfulness in advertising, states that “Any advertisement or advertisement referring to the transactions that this title deals with, must be true, the advertiser taking care that the facts are not misrepresented and that the announcement or publication is not misleading or confusing. The statements that refer to the nature, composition, origin, substantial qualities or properties of the products or services must always be exact and susceptible to verification at any time…”.
Complaints about misleading advertising can be filed through the Institutional Information and Complaint System (Sindi), on WhatsApp and Telegram 6330-3333, the accounts of the AcodecoPma social networks on Facebook, Twitter and the website of this institution.
