The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, arrived this Tuesday in The Hague, Netherlands, in order to participate in the hearings in the unilateral lawsuit filed by Guyana against Venezuela.
The lawsuit was filed by Guyana before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), for the situation of the Essequibo.
Upon her arrival in The Hague, the Executive Vice President was received by representatives of the nation’s Foreign Ministry.
The Executive Vice President informed that she will participate in the hearings on the preliminary objections presented by Venezuela to the Guyana lawsuit
“We were received by the Netherlands Foreign Ministry in The Hague to participate in the hearings on the preliminary objections, presented by Venezuela against Guyana’s unilateral claim before the International Court of Justice. The Sun of Venezuela is born in the Essequibo!”, he wrote the Vice President Rodriguez on his account on the social network Twitter.
Venezuela has reiterated, on different occasions, its position of recognition of the validity of the Geneva Agreement of 1966 to reach a practical and mutually satisfactory arrangement for the parties.
This, after Guyana requested the ICJ to “confirm the legal validity and binding effect of the arbitration award of 1899 with respect to the border between Guyana and Venezuela.”
