Félix Chero on Betssy Chávez: “Investigations have to take place, but they must be done on objective issues”

The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Felix Cheroreferred to the preliminary investigation that the Prosecutor’s Office opened against the head of the Ministry of Culture (Mincul), Betsy Chavezfor the alleged commission of the crimes of incompatible negotiation or use of the position and aggravated influence peddling.

After finishing the extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers, Chero Medina expressed confidence that Chávez Chino would clarify the situation. In addition, he urged that investigations be carried out on objective issues.

“We have discussed it, we have just learned of an official communiqué from Minister Chávez. I am particularly familiar with the conduct of Minister Chávez and I think she will be able to clarify this situation. However, we have always pointed out that investigations have to take place when there is evidence of conviction and solid foundations, but always the same invocation that they be made on objective issues and that everyone be treated equally”, Chero declared to the press.

“It turns out that every time a situation is announced against a minister in a program, an investigation is immediately activated and it does not happen against other people”, he clarified.

At another time, the head of the Ministry of Justice said that on Wednesday, November 16, they will provide an answer after the statement from the president of Congress, José Williams (Avanza País), who told them that the request for a question of confidence was not acceptable.

“The President of the Council of Ministers [Aníbal Torres] He has given us an account of the response that Congress has given regarding the request for deduction of a matter of confidence that had been instrumentalized for a next plenary session and on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, after the analysis that we make, we will be making the approach that is within the constitutional framework”, explained Felix Chero.

Denounce Chavez

Last Sunday, November 13, the Cuarto Poder program denounced that Betsy Chavez It would have facilitated the hiring of two relatives of Abel Sotelo Villa, a merchant with whom he is romantically linked.

The Sunday newspaper explained that one of those hired was the father of Abel Sotelo, Antonio Sotelo Calderonwho was appointed representative of the Ministry of Labor before the Senati National Council on January 12 by Chávez, when she was head of this sector.

Subsequently, Sotelo Calderón was hired at Cofopri Tacna, an entity that is attached to the Ministry of Housing.

Likewise, Abel Sotelo’s brother was hired as an assistant to Chávez Chino’s parliamentary office in October 2021. The transparency section of Congress indicates that Marco Antonio Sotelo he worked there until last March.
