Pandemic drives digitization and 10,561 MiPymes migrate to e-commerce

The coronavirus pandemic boosted digitalization in 2021 and caused 10,561 Bolivian micro and small businesses (MiPymes) to migrate to electronic commerce, results obtained by the “MiPyme Digitization Plan”, of the Foreign Ministry and the National Chamber of Commerce (CNC), together with the Kolau marteting firm.

“The MiPyme Digitization Plan, launched by the Foreign Ministry and promoted by the National Chamber of Commerce, together with Kolau, led 10,561 micro and small companies in Bolivia to e-commerce in 2021,” says a press release.

It highlights that last year consumption on the internet was consolidated, with sales growth of 25% compared to 2020, when online sales increased by 150% compared to 2019, due to the pandemic.

Last year, the number of Bolivian micro and small businesses that sell via the Internet also experienced an exponential increase, going from 3,322 SMEs in 2020 to 7,239 in 2021.

“Bolivian consumers are buying not only products or services on the internet, but also for daily use such as the food basket. Any small Bolivian company can compete with the big chains on equal opportunities”, highlighted the CEO of Kolau, Daniel Sánchez Mola.
