Raí, brother of the deceased Sócrates, a true symbol of the fight for democracy in the last years of the military dictatorship (1964-1985), will be a member of the working group dedicated to sports, as announced on Monday by the vice president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin.

Also part of that group will be former volleyball player and Olympic champion Ana Moser; Isabel Salgado, pioneer of beach soccer; former basketball player Marta Sobral; and the Paralympic athlete Verônica Silva Hipólito, among other athletes.

Loyal follower of Lula

Raí, a former Paris Saint-Germain player, is a faithful follower of Lula, whom he supported in the campaign for the presidential elections on October 30, in which the progressive leader prevailed over the current ruler, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro.

Raí expressed his support for Lula even at the last Ballon d’Or gala, held in Paris on the eve of the Brazilian elections.

It was during the delivery of the Socrates trophy, created by France Football magazine to recognize the social action of a footballer, in this case the Senegalese Sadio Mané, when the world champion with the ‘canarinha’ imitated the letter L with his hand, a gesture used by lulist sympathizers.
