Trump’s failures in midterm elections cause erosion among Republicans

OnCubaNews

Former President Donald Trump’s failures in the midterm elections are eroding the Republican support he had to avoid a criminal conviction, according to a lawyer.

A conservative lawyer, Eric Owens, believes that Republicans have strategic reasons to support a possible conviction of the former president after his disastrous performances in the elections last Tuesday.

It has been reported that Trump is planning to announce his presidential campaign, a way of trying to avoid his possible prosecution due to the numerous investigations against him.

His hope had been to ride a wave of Republican success in this election, but with Democrats posting strong results over the past week, Trump’s future as a Republican figurehead and his 2024 candidacy is being thrown into question.

Trump will make a “big announcement” on November 15

The Daily Beast interviewed numerous lawyers and legal experts about the Trump situation. Most said his plan to avoid criminal prosecution would do him no good, as the various investigations against him are too advanced.

Owens said the situation is even worse for Trump than he could imagine. Many Republicans now have a potential reason to see him convicted and out of the political arena. “Trump is beginning to be seen from the rear-view mirror of the car,” said a conservative analyst.

“Trump thinks he can avoid prosecution by running for president and causing delays,” Owens said. “That’s another strategy of his: delay and run out of time. But many Republicans simply have an interest in seeing him prosecuted and convicted of anything, really. They want him out of their way, either because of his ambition or because he has clearly embarked on the party by supporting bad candidates.”

The Republican Party’s hopes of a “red wave” in the midterm elections did not come to fruition. The Democrats maintained their control in the Senate and will increase that advantage if they win Georgia on December 6.
