Specialists from the Moquegua Regional Health Directorate warned that the Moquegua region is above the national indicator for the number of patients diagnosed with diabetes by a health professional.
While in Peru 4.9% of the population has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, according to the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES), in Moquegua it affects 5.9%.
Causes of high incidence
On Saturday, a screening test was carried out to rule out diabetes at the front of the central market. Nursing graduate Sara Cruz explained that today, November 14, the World Day to Fight Diabetes is remembered, which is a disease that has no cure, only treatment.
Among the reasons why there is a high incidence of this disease in Moquegua, he explained that it is due to the fact that it is a hot region and has an exquisite gastronomy, since it causes citizens to consume sugary drinks in excess as well as foods rich in carbohydrates.
prevention campaigns
He advised the population to be discarded in the campaigns carried out by the Regional Health Directorate as well as in the first level establishments.
The Moquegua Regional Health Directorate, the Moquegua Regional Hospital, the Lions Club and the College of Nutritionists participated in Saturday’s campaign.
