The National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) appointed Gonzalo Quijandría Fernández as president of the organizing committee of the 15th edition of the International Gold, Silver and Copper Symposium, which will take place in the second half of May 2024, in the city of Lime.
Quijandría Fernández, who graduated as a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and was a Nieman Foundation Scholar at Harvard University, has 21 years of experience in sustainable management, especially in the Peruvian mining and energy sector.
He is currently Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Minsur SA, responsible for the Social Management, Sustainability, Licenses and Permits, Legal, Compliance, Risks and Communications departments of the Breca Group mining companies (Minsur, Raura, Marcobre and Mineracao Taboca from Brazil).

He also holds the position of general manager of Cumbres del Sur, a mining company of the Breca Group and is Minsur’s Principal Liaison Officer before the ICMM (International Council of Mining and Metals).
“The challenges of modern mining in the world and its link with climate change, the transition towards a green economy, environmental and social sustainability and good governance, will be the main thematic axes that are expected to be analyzed within the framework of the next Symposium. International of Gold, Silver and Copper organized by the SNMPE”, said Quijandría.
Another of the objectives of this biennial event, -he added- will be to promote knowledge of the potential of natural resources, particularly gold, copper and silver, as well as to promote new investments and business opportunities not only in Peru, but throughout the Latin American region.
