INPEC reacted to this makeshift pool made by the inmates.
News Colombia
Prisoner of the ‘La Modelo’ prison in Cúcuta misused the laundry area of the penitentiary center to build a handmade swimming pool.
With tiles, cement and other materials, the inmates prepared the site to turn it into an improvised pool for their enjoyment and recreation while they spend their days in prison.
In this place, the inmates of patio 9 spent their days not only cooling off, but also performing underwater competitions, such as apnea, diving, racing.
They also practiced “sports” such as volleyball, in addition to drinking alcoholic beverages on the premises; such as going for a walk with friends.

INPEC ruled
Although there was already knowledge of the improvised pool that was in the ‘La Modelo’ prison in Cúcuta, the investigations have not found those responsible who helped in its construction.
However, from the general directorate of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute, INPEC, they issued the order to dismantle the pool and rehabilitate the laundry area.
“As a first measure, it is ordered to make adjustments to the walls to prevent the storage of water in said area,” says part of the statement.
Likewise, INPEC reported that the disciplinary investigation will continue in order to find those responsible for this fact.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that this type of event has been reported in the prison, since in March of this year, inmates set up a swimming pool and several cells were fitted with veneers to beautify them.
