Independent Party ratified permanence in the coalition and requested measures for those who receive lower income

The National Convention of the Independent Party met this Sunday and ratified his permanence in the multicolor coalition but at the same time asked for increases in pensions and in the amounts of family allowances.

We ratify our commitment to integrate the current government coalition to carry out what is established in the Commitment for the country that we signed in November 2019. In this sense, the importance of the reforms that are being carried out and that are part of our programmatic convictions with which we feel identified must be highlighted,” reads the declaration of the Convention.

In turn, the convention showed its “resolute support for Educational Transformationto the Social Security Reform process, to the Public Management Reform, to the objective of prioritizing support for early childhood and to the determined effort to promote a policy of International Opening and Insertion in the World”. “All these orientations have long been part of our programmatic proposals that today we feel reflected in the management of the government that we integrate”.

On the other hand, the Convention proposed two measures that it will present in the coming days to the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou. The first is “special support for retirees and pensioners who receive the minimum benefits, defining that the 3% interim increase granted as of July 1, 2022 is not discounted in the annual increase of January 1, 2023According to the convention, this measure would benefit 227,507 people, who represent 28% of those who receive passivities.

They also asked to increase the amount of family allowances of the Equity Plan by 50% “whose beneficiaries are almost 400 thousand (389,508) boys, girls and adolescents belonging to lower income households”. “This decision would imply that benefits increase by almost $1,000 pesos per month per beneficiary and would have an immediate impact on all lower-income households with dependent children,” the Convention said in a statement.

The leader of the Party, Pablo Mieres, indicated after the convention that in 2023 the “process of elaboration of the program” of government will begin with his ideas and proposals. “In 2024 the party will present its electoral optionin principle, if things continue as they have been up to now, within the framework of the Republican coalition but with its own presence”.
