Her wealth allowed Marta Abreu to travel through Europe and the United States from a very young age, which put her in contact with key figures of her time and allowed her to appreciate the differences between the most developed countries and her own, and how difficult they had it. the Cubans. especially in small cities and inland towns.
The “great benefactor” married the lawyer and university professor from Havana Luis Estévez y Romero, also a relative of the independence cause and helper of the poor.
Marta Abreu died at her home in Paris on January 2, 1902, shortly after moving to Europe due to her husband’s poor health.
