The ultra-conservative legislator, Guido Manini Ríos, is already looking forward to the 2024 elections in which he will “surely” be a candidate for his Cabildo Abierto party.
“The year 2024 is still far away in political times, there is much to go before, but Cabildo Abierto is a party that has its characteristics,” Manini Ríos assured in statements collected by the press. And he added: “Surely I will be a candidate, there is no other figure that today is foreseeing the same”.
Regarding the possibility that the current Minister of Health, Daniel Salinas, integrate a presidential formula with him, he commented that “he has not expressed any interest in being a candidate, he is simply fulfilling a function.”
He valued as positive the performance of the minister – who left the lobbying shops – in front of the Public Health portfolio, but stressed that, “in political terms”, he still does not value pursuing a political career beyond 2024.
“It may be that very much on the date of the elections, other senators will be given way, but today we will continue with our parliamentary work, which I believe is more necessary than ever,” said the CA leader.
In the 2019 presidential elections, Manini Ríos came in fourth place (below Luis Lacalle Pou, Daniel Martínez and Ernesto Talvi) having amassed 268,736 votes for a total of 11.04% of the total votes cast. It was the first time he had contended for both the then brand-new match and himself personally.
