Starting this week, the Republican Guard will be present at the Baltazar Brum Terminal, better known as the Rio Branco Terminal. The company Kelir SA is the concessionaire that will be in charge of contracting the service, being a preventive measure that seeks to improve the attention to workers and users of passenger transport.
During the day, two members of the Republicana will work, to which one more guard will be added at night. These will be distributed in different points of the terminal and will work in different shifts 24 hours a day. Joselo Hernández is Coordinator of the Metropolitan Area of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. Consulted by Diario La R about this initiative, he commented that “it is about improving the service at a general level in the terminal, which this year turned 30 years old.”
The idea of reinforcing the guard at the site seeks to “improve the prevention service since there has been an isolated case, although not serious, of insecurity at the terminal.”
Among the improvements announced by Hernández is the installation of a La Española polyclinic in the terminal itself: “a few days ago the agreement was signed for the installation of a 24-hour care polyclinic. for the case of urgencies which will be working in the next few days”.
In this polyclinic there will be the presence of a nurse and a doctor from 8 in the morning until 8 pm. and from 8:00 p.m. At 8 in the morning there will be a trained person in case there is an emergency. “In turn, during the day there will be effective attention to process the health card and the physical fitness certificate for the driver’s license,” added Hernández.
Hernández clarifies that although it will be a polyclinic of the La Española mutual insurance company, “if a case arises that needs urgent attention among transport workers or passengers, they will be able to attend there.” Currently the works are advanced and its inauguration is expected for “the next few days” informed Hernández.
The Baltasar Brum Terminal is an interdepartmental bus terminal in Montevideo. Said Terminal has peaks of up to 20,000 users per day and more than 3,400 daily services between departures and arrivals from the entire Metropolitan Area, which represent 70% of the total passenger transport nationwide, dependent on the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. “The idea is to improve the customer service there and give peace of mind to the users of a terminal where there are people at all hours and it is open 24 hours a day with transportation services also 24 hours a day. of the day, therefore it was essential” concluded Hernández.
This terminal is located on Río Branco Street, Rambla Franklin D. Roosevelt and Galicia in front of the Port of Montevideo in the Old City. It was designed by the architect Aldo Lamorte and inaugurated in 1992, replacing the old “Control” on Arenal Grande street.
