The Federation of Tourism Companies of Chile (Fedetur) referred to the Torres del Paine park ranger strike, which began a week ago, and estimated that if it continues, the tourism industry will stop receiving nearly US$ 100 million per month .
In recent days, the paralysis has deepened with the -almost total- closure of the parks and enclosures of the National System of Protected Wild Areas, administered by Conaf. From Fedetur maintains that the loss of income will affect, in the same way, the coffers of the National Forestry Corporation.

The executive vice president of the tourist entity, Helen Kouyoumdjian, stated that “at Fedetur we have raised the situation with the Government and the sectoral authorities, because we are aware that the working conditions of the park rangers must be improved so that they can do their job properly with the essentials.”
In the same way, he pointed out that as Fedetur they are available “to help reach an early agreement between them and the Government, so that their demands are resolved and thus avoid extending a strike that harms not only tourism, but also also to the country.
On the other hand, he addressed how the situation affects tourists in the area, where Kouyoumdjian indicated that “it must be taken into account that people who visit these places and especially foreign tourists, make the decision well in advance, so Both those who were going to visit the venues on these dates are affected, as well as those who want to do so in a later time”.
“Uncertainty does not allow planning in advance, which is very complex, considering that those who come from abroad have the possibility of nature tourism as the main motivator for visiting Chile,” he said.
