MIAMI, United States. — The Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina assured the Spanish newspaper The world that he no longer considers himself a friend of the Cuban revolution, with which he sympathized for several decades.
In an interview offered to that medium about the premiere of the documentary The 21st century pisses me off —by the Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa— Sabina assured that all the revolutions of the past century have been a failure, and that the Cuban one is no exception.
“I am very pissed off. And also pissed off with the devastating failure of all the revolutions of the 20th century. I was a friend of the Cuban revolution and of Fidel Castro. But I’m not anymore, I can’t be,” he said.
In this sense, the author of 19 days and 500 nights made it clear that he supported the Cubans who take to the streets to protest and also those who have gone into exile.
“Now I am on the side of those who demonstrate and those who are exiled from the Island. Those of us who have been on the left have the responsibility to tell the truth in the face of some disasters on the left,” said the singer-songwriter.
Sabina, 73, also spoke about Nicaraguan ruler Daniel Ortega, whom she criticized for having betrayed her country.
“I am outraged by Daniel Ortega’s betrayal of Nicaragua. This is something I can’t talk about without shitting on the fucking mother of those responsible for the infamy, for the betrayal,” said the famous Spanish artist.
