One of the highlights of this Session was the Proposal for a Recommendation to the Council of the Common Market for the creation of the Immigration Observatory in Mercosur. At the same time, the Plenary analyzed and approved the Declaration Proposal by which Parlasur declares its approval of the International Alliance for the Remembrance of the Holocaust that defines the concept of anti-Semitism.
Argentine Parliamentarian María Luisa Storani stressed that “Parlasur must join this campaign to work against anti-Semitism and xenophobia. Argentina has seen a significant increase in these elements, especially in the media. We must not accept demonstrations of this type in Mercosur”.
On the other hand, the representative for Argentina, Alejandro Karlen, presented the Provision Proposal that creates the Immigration Observatory of the Mercosur Parliament. According to the parliamentarian, “in recent years the migration crises that have occurred in South America and the Caribbean must be put in critical mode and Parlasur must respond. This Project is a development of humanitarian assistance. There is a need for Parlasur to be actively involved in this theme and problem”. The issue will be followed up in the next Plenary Session of Parlasur.
