Within the framework of the National Board of Christian Democracy, now headed by deputy Alberto Undurraga, a group of party members left the instance accusing irregularities in the process and declared themselves “in reflection” regarding their continuity in the store.
This was confirmed through a public statement signed by the 71 militants, among whom are the ex-conventional Fuad Chahin, the deputy Jorge Saffirio and the vice president of the Christian Democracy, Joanna Pérez.
According to complaints, the National Board was held irregularly, which was repeated in the elections of the Supreme Court and the National Council of the party. This, after the Electoral Service (Servel) warned that they are outside the legal term for their operation.
“The defeated supreme court of the party has not only agreed on serious resolutions such as the suspension of the militancy of the former president of the party, Fuad Chahin, but also those that allow the realization of this National Board,” they point out.
Likewise, they criticize “the telematic voting for the election of authorities, which is not regulated by the party’s current statute, such as the qualification of the candidacies for both the National Council and the Supreme Court itself.” In addition, they reject that “four members without candidates for re-election and in said qualification have left five candidates disqualified, that is, they are judge and party in said process.”
“We have participated in countless conversations to try to reach a political agreement that returns the minimum conditions and guarantees of operation of a political party, but unfortunately the magnitude of the crisis has not been understood and they insist on moving forward with a telematic meeting and with votes to elect fundamental organs of the political parties under the indicated irregularities”, they complement.
After the situation, the militants did not rule out taking the case to court and “with deep regret” declared themselves in reflection, putting their continuity within the community at risk.
“We have decided not to participate in the votes and debates of the National Board, we reserve the right to go to the ordinary courts of justice to challenge all situations of manifest illegality that seriously compromise the actions of a political party, those that are currently supervised strictly by current legislation, likewise, with deep regret, we declare ourselves in a state of reflection regarding our militancy”, they closed.
