The leaders of Alcasa emphasized that the workers must attend the assemblies called, alleging that “what is at stake are their benefits and time in the company.”

The Movement 7, the Alcasian Voice, the legal adviser Miguel Maita; Deputy Ramón Castillo and the organization’s board of directors held an informative assembly for the workers of Aluminums del Caroní, SA (Alcasa), in order to respond to a series of actions that are being carried out to nullify a wave of unjustified dismissals within the company.
In the Ruiz Pineda Park in Ciudad Bolívar, a group of workers met who claim to have been unjustly fired or forced to resign from the state company. According to Javier Torres, president of Movement 7, there are at least 900 workers fired from the company, a measure that violates the labor immobility that was imposed in the country.
“They are violating our right to work. Today we come to offer this assembly to explain what we are doing in Caracas. Do not be surprised that before February they begin to reincorporate workers to their jobs. There is international pressure from the ILO”, shouted Torres.
Javier Torres mobilized together with the president of the Federation of Workers of Bolívar (Fetrabolívar), Fidel Brito; and the deputy of the Legislative Council of the state of Bolívar (CLEB), Ramón Castillo, to consign a document in which the complaints of the employees of the basic companies of Guayana were recorded.
These documents denounce the unjustified mass dismissal of 900 Alcasians and, in addition, expose the case of a state company worker who, despite having a reinstatement order approved by the Labor Inspectorate, has not been reinstated to his trades. .
The complaints were sent to the president of the Central de Trabajadores Sindical Alianza Independiente (ASI), Marcela León, whose central is part of the Social Dialogue Forum assisted by the International Labor Organization (ILO), which takes place in Caracas.
León endorsed the document as a labor representative at the national level, and it was received by ILO authorities in Caracas.
Legal foundations vs Alcasa
Movement 7’s lawyer, Miguel Maita, classified the dismissal of this group of workers as illegal due to the pandemic context and the health emergency, which reached its peak in the country at that time.
“This period was used by those who manage the company to take all these measures. They settled in the health emergency to suspend all our benefits and invented a decree through the National Budget Office (Onapre) that has taken away all our labor rights”, highlighted the jurist who cited that labor immobility in the country is in force until November 31, 2022.
“Let’s not stay at home when we call an assembly. Our salary benefits and our time in the company are at risk. The one who has less time here is 10 years old. It has been said that forced retirements are coming at Alcasa”, Maita used to encourage the workers not to stop attending labor meetings.
The workers plan to hold another meeting to discuss the same problem, this time in Plaza Bolívar in the Piar municipality.
