In the midst of the negotiations of the political parties to channel the second constituent period, the president of the Socialist Party, Paulina Vodanovic, reflected that both the path and the result of the process are equally important to achieve agreements for a new Constitution.
Along these lines, he assured that “if we have learned something from the process that ended and failed on September 4, it is that the path was also as important as the result.” “If that process is not one of dialogue, we will not be able to have a social pact,” she pointed out in conversation with Cooperative.
This implies “agreements and that we all sit at the same table to talk.” Otherwise, “it will be very difficult to have a good Constitution”, which in his opinion, “are neither left nor right”.
“The good constitutions are consistent with the democratic progress of the country, and that deliver the implementation and detail of the constitutions themselves to the laws,” added the socialist leader.
Proposal from Chile Let’s go
On the other hand, Vodanovic addressed the proposal of Chile Vamos for the body in charge of drafting the new Constitution to have 50 members, just like in the Senate.
Given this, he maintained that “the number seems low to us”, so they are working on a joint proposal – which includes the DC – to determine the mechanism of the process.
“Without this transversality, it will not be possible to advance in the great and necessary changes that are required in Chile,” he stated.
