The Nicaraguan regime continues its authoritarian drift and increases the number of political prisoners. This Friday, María Germania Carrión, wife of political prisoner José Adán Aguerri, former president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), was arrested. Aguerri was transferred on November 9 from his home, where he remained under house arrest, to the El Chipote prison.
María Germania Carrión served for several years as executive director of Cosep under the command of Aguerri. She is the daughter of retired General Javier Carrión, former head of the Nicaraguan Army during the 2000s under the Liberal governments.
The United States announced that it will extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrant citizens from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, Sudan and Nepal until June 2024. The extension will be valid as of December 31 of 2022.

The Joe Biden administration will benefit some 391,000 migrants, including 4,250 Nicaraguans, who have been living in the United States under TPS for several years. In addition, this action implies that citizens covered by this regulation will automatically obtain a work permit.
The United States is the main destination for Nicaraguan migrants and opponents fleeing the state repression of the Ortega Murillo regime. According to the Customs and Border Protection Office of the North American country, 164,600 nationals of the Central American country entered irregularly in fiscal year 2022.
The Ortega Murillo dictatorship approved a new entry of military troops and ships into Nicaraguan territory in the first half of next year for the purpose of “exchange and humanitarian assistance in cases of emergency.”
Through a Presidential Agreement, the regime establishes the entry of military personnel from Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Mexico, the United States, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. This “strengthening” of relations with Russia and the Ortega regime occurs despite the concern expressed by the United States and Costa Rica.

The president of the Municipal Electoral Council of Camoapa, Rita Aráuz, who at the tables represented the Liberal Constitutionalist Party (PLC), denounced that the results in her municipality were inflated by the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) and do not coincide with those reflected in the certificate signed by her.
