The general director of the Center for Development and Industrial Competitiveness (Proindustry), Ulysses Rodriguezaffirmed this Friday that Dominicans are compelled to promote industrial development as a fundamental component to consolidate the economic boom and social prosperity.
Delivering the keynote address at the closing ceremony of the II Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair held over three days in the Gardens of the Great Theater of the Cibao, in Santiago, Rodríguez explained that the industriousness, creativity and intelligence of Dominicans, and the excellent strategic location of the country are very favorable factors for promoting industrial development in the Dominican Republic.
A statement points out that the technological development that is sweeping the world provides opportunities to overcome delays and make great leaps of industrial progress, which will allow us to successfully meet the challenges of development and social welfare of Dominicans.
He gave an example of the success that the companies in the export processing zones have today in the country, which contribute to generating quality jobs, enriching the heritage of the people’s work culture, in addition to being an important source of foreign exchange generation.
Rodríguez praised the exhibitors for their contributions to the fair, which he said show the ability of Dominicans to create new products that meet the needs of society
He reported that recognitions and prizes will be awarded to the projects with the highest levels of Innovation, Employment Generation, Technological Levelawards for development and entrepreneurship and innovations, special awards for Polytechnic projects, awards for projects presented by universities, and awards for independent projects.
In the inaugural session, a tribute and recognition was made for Innovation and Industrial Competitiveness to businessman Fernando Capellánwho has generated tens of thousands of jobs with his companies.
The fair was attended more than three thousand students from public schools and private schoolswho were offered guided tours of around 70 stands of exhibitors, participated in conferences and expert debates and enjoyed artistic activities.
Also in attendance were prominent business leaders such as Celso Juan Marranzini, president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic; Sandy Filpo, president of the Association of Merchants and Industrialists of Santiago, Guillermo León, president of the tobacco company La Aurora; Ignacio Méndez, representative of the company PyHex Work, among others.
Also Eduardo Estrella, president of the Senate, the ministers Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, of Industry and Commerce; Daniel Rivera, from Health; Franklin García Fermín, from Higher Education; Rafael Féiz, of the Youth; Bartolomé Pujals director of the Office of Innovation of the Presidency, and the directors Salvador Ramos, from Onapi, Omar Méndez, from ITLA, Iván Hernández, from Inespre, Andrés Burgos, from Coraasan; the manager of Edenorte, Andrés Cueto; Porfirio Peralta, from Promipyme; the Ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa, and the provincial governor Rosa Santos.
Also Senator Antonio Marte and deputies Soraya Suárez, Luis René Fernández, Fausto Domínguez, Francisco Díaz and Mateo Espaillat, as well as the Central Regional Director of the National Police, based in Santiago, General Samuel Azcona Reyes.
