Manuel Rodríguez is a leader and one of the founders of the List 1811 of the Cabildo Abierto, from Rocha, publicly announced that he will vote “Yes” to repeal the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC), in the referendum that will be held next March 27.

This did not please the leadership of the list that asked for his resignation, since Cabildo Abierto is part of the multicolored coalition that supports the government of Luis Lacalle Pou.

According to the militant Faces and masks, CA contributed 1,800 votes to the coalition in Rocha, helping the nationalist mayor, Alejo Umpiérrez, reach the departmental government, although he was unable to place any mayor on the Departmental Board. The political force agreed to positions in the departmental direction of Production and Development and sub-directorates, but Rodríguez questioned the “hand-picked” appointment of 300 positions framed in the agreement with Fundación A Ganar, as well as 13 more positions.

Likewise, he demanded the implementation of an old resolution that prohibits the raising of pigs in urban areas, which he says is the livelihood of families in suburban areas. He was also critical of the implementation of the Jornales Solidarios system because it affected the income of those who found occasional jobs.

Rodríguez also did not agree with the hiring of a road work on route 9, which was through the Director of Works, Leandro Piñeiro, and not through the presentation of a resume from the private company. In all this, he would not have received support from the Cabildo Abierto.

The break occurred when he publicly announced that he would vote “Yes” in the popular consultation on March 27, and that was when the local authorities of the right-wing party asked him to resign. Rodríguez told the media that many like him submitted their resignation, since their claims and complaints were not heard. “Many who came from the left and who have now returned to it,” he asserted.
