In Venezuela, 24 femicides were registered last September, which brings to 175 the number of women killed for gender reasons in the first nine months of the year, according to the most recent report of the NGO Utopix released this Friday, September 11.
“Nine months of the year 2022 have passed, a total of 175 femicides are already recorded at the national level between January and September,” the organization said on its website.
The states with the highest number of femicides during September were Lara, Miranda and Carabobo with four, Caracas, Zulia and Bolívar with two, Trujillo, Táchira, Mérida and Monagas with one.
“We continue to warn and see with concern that there is no concrete proposal from the State to deal with this problem, which only shows the great shortcoming that exists around public policies related to the prevention, attention and mitigation of gender violence against women. women,” added the NGO.
Utopix maintained that most of the victims were between 16 and 25 years oldand there were three cases where age did not appear in the news.
He added that in nine of the cases a firearm was used, in six cases knives were used, in four the death was the result of obstetric violence, in two cases it was due to beatings and in three due to mechanical suffocation.
“Of the total of 24 cases, in three they abandoned the victim’s body on public roads, in one case the victim was missing and in four cases the victims suffered torture,” they detailed.
He indicated that 15 of the victims were mothers, so 16 children and adolescents are orphanedin three cases the relatives of the women reported mistreatment and in another three cases there is a history of harassment.
Regarding the situation of the perpetrators, Utopix indicated that they identified a total of 32, of which 15 are already in prison, five escaped, two committed suicide and the information on another ten is unknown.
