Minister Neney Cabrera affirmed that the new types of environmentally friendly housing, built by the Government through the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep), give dignity and offer a different lifestyle to those families that have lived in conditions of extreme poverty and in places vulnerable to natural phenomena.

Cabrera, in charge of Propeep, announced that in addition to the 100 homes delivered by President Luis Abinader in the Barro Arriba municipal district of Azua de Compostela, 40 are being built in San Cristóbal that will be delivered soon, and the agency, through the Eco Habitat, ordered by the president, plans to build 400 more units in other provincial locations, which will be delivered by mid-2023.

During a visit to the newsroom of El Nacional, where he was received by the deputy director, José Antonio Torres, and the editor-in-chief, Héctor Minaya, Minister Cabrera highlighted that to the 140 houses mentioned, there are another 10 built in the Cayetano Germosén municipality. , from the Espaillat province.

“It is a different concept of life, which promotes living in community and dignifies the favored family,” he specified.
“With this housing solution, we are helping to solve three fundamental things. In the first place, helping to rescue the plastic material that our rivers and ravines drag; secondly, we help reduce the housing deficit in the country, and thirdly, we help solve the energy supply problem, because they are equipped with solar panels”, he pointed out.

With the 400 Eco Habitat homes that will be built by mid-2023, families in conditions of vulnerability and extreme poverty from Los Alcarrizos, El Seibo, Barahona and San Cristóbal, Nagua and Azua will benefit along with another 100.

Recycled material
The official stressed that Eco Habitat homes are low cost, because they are built with expanded polystyrene, which is obtained from recycled material, collected in rivers and streams, especially plastics; They have 45 square meters of construction and consist of two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room, dining room and kitchen, in addition to having 500-watt solar panels, whose excess energy will be added to the national electrical system.

They also have sports fields, a price stabilization institute (Inespre) market, a Primary Health Care Unit, a town pharmacy, a 90,000-gallon water supply system, paved streets, a parish, a perimeter fence, a National Police headquarters for complaints and guaranteeing community security, two classrooms of the Vocational Schools of the Armed Forces and the National Police for technical training of residents, as well as a Reserve Bank teller.

“It is a way of raising the quality of life for the beneficiary families, who lived in houses built of cardboard, tin, zinc, with dirt floors and in places exposed to climatic situations,” he emphasized.

Neney Cabrera cited the social inclusion sessions called Primero Tú as one of the social programs with the greatest social impact that the Government has developed, through which more than 150,000 people in conditions of extreme poverty have benefited, and announced that during next December, one will be held daily in different neighborhoods and provincial towns.

He explained that during the operations of Primero Tú, in which 17 State institutions participate, medical assistance and other different services are provided to children, adolescents, youth, older adults and the elderly who are given cooked and raw food rations.

Landfills
Another of the programs of great social, health and environmental impact that Propeep develops, is the intervention of open-air dumps that operated under critical conditions, with the aim of mitigating environmental damage and controlling their operation and proper management of waste. solid waste.

Cabrera cited that on the instructions of President Luis Abinader, the landfills of the municipalities of Haina, San Cristóbal, Higüey, Verón-Punta Cana, Sosúa, Puerto Plata, Nagua, Samaná and Las Terrenas were intervened, which he recalled suffered fires systematically and their smoke and operability put the health of national and foreign residents and visitors at risk, at the same time affecting the economies of those localities.

He explained that these were subjected to a process of removal of land and waste, the smoke was eliminated and in those of Haina, Higüey, Samaná, Las Terrenas and Nagua, where Propeep built, through its Eco5RD program, the weighing stations and tenders the transfers to later build modern sanitary landfills.

Rapid intervention
Minister Neney Cabrera pointed out that another program implemented by Propeep is developed through the Government Rapid Action Unit (UDRAG), implemented in La Romana after Hurricane Fiona passed through the country and in Los Alcarrizos due to flooding. recently caused by downpours.

In La Romana, the main municipalities, Guaymate and Vista Hermosa, were intervened, as well as the Cumayasa and Caleta districts, which recovered their total normality in record time.
