The Ministry of Education (Meduca) executes various projects in the province of Colón, Minister Maruja Gorday de Villolobos toured these schools to verify their progress.
The tour of Gorday de Villalobos took place together with the engineering and architecture team who inspected the progress of the works of the general basic education centers (CEBG) Nuevo San Juan and El Jiral, Elida viuda de Garrido, Desmond Byam and the Instituto Professional and Technical (IPT) of Colón, which will benefit more than three thousand students.
In the CEBG Desmond Byam, located in Nuevo San Juan, new facilities are being built consisting of three pavilions with three levels, 49 classrooms, computer, science, language, technology and industrial laboratories.
According to the minister, the new campus will be built in an area of seven thousand square meters, with an investment of 12 million balboas and it is estimated that, once the work is completed, two thousand primary and secondary students will be able to converge.
Gorday de Villalobos, verified the progress in the construction of the treatment plant, installation of the drinking water reserve tank, playground and nursing rooms, dentistry, virtual library and the psycho-pedagogical cabinet.
Another of the schools visited was the CEBG Nuevo San Juan, a work that at a cost of 3 million balboas will have theoretical classrooms, a preschool, a computer lab, a perimeter fence, a covered field and other adaptations.
The CEBG El Jiral, with an investment of 6 million balboas, and 95% complete, will have a premedia building, an administration building, primary classrooms, a gym and a cafeteria, a synthetic field, a new health system, an electrical connection and the adaptation of existing facilities for 584 students, 37 teachers and 10 administrative staff.
The IPT Colón, specialized in technical careers, is another of the projects being executed and has one of the most complete and equipped infrastructures, with a progress of 98% and an investment of 13.9 million balboas.
The work includes 38 existing classrooms, completely remodeled, and 42 theoretical, two support, a dining room, a gym, two drinking water reserve tanks with a capacity for 33 thousand gallons, 10 laboratories, a library, a synthetic field and four workshops.
Another of the schools visited by the minister was the CEBG Elisa viuda de Garrido, in which a complete remodeling of the entire campus is carried out, which includes the main entrance and corridors, design and construction of a new cafeteria, concrete slab parking lots reinforced, warehouse, bathroom and demolition of existing kiosk in pavilion A1.
In addition, remodeling of the teachers’ lounge, design and construction of a new gym, as well as the new perimeter fence. This educational facility, located in the township of Buena Vista, which is being built with a budget of 13 million 958 thousand 679 balboas, registers an advance of 65% progress.
