INDA canteens will have 300 tons of meat donated by INAC

INDA canteens will have 300 tons of meat donated by INAC

In the third plan for the delivery of meat products to the National System of Dining Rooms, the National Meat Institute (INAC) will donate some 300 tons of this input, of Uruguayan origin, bovine, avian and porcine, for a value equivalent to 1,400,000 dollars , to the dining rooms of the National Food Institute (INDA). The Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, participated in the event, held this Thursday 10th.

The activity, held at the INAC headquarters, was also attended by the head of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides), Martín Lema; the undersecretary of the portfolio, Andrea Brugman, and the presidents of INAC, Conrado Ferber, and INDA, Ignacio Elgue.

Through the plan executed in 2020, the demand for food with meat was met for some 18,800 people, and in 2021, for more than 17,000. The products were distributed in 61 points: 51 canteens, 2 battalions and 8 Mides centers.

Through the third plan, INAC will deliver to INDA canteens 300 tons of meat, bovine, avian and pork, produced in Uruguay, within the framework of a project included in the Annual Operational Plan and which was specified through a resolution of the Presidency of the Republic, which incorporates the Ministries of Livestock, Economy and Social Development.

In his speech, Delgado stated that one of the fundamental axes of Mides is to optimize management. He highlighted the commitment of the authorities in matters related to food. In that sense, he pointed out that the will of the Executive is to provide INDA with instruments to attend to those who need it.

Likewise, he considered the INAC Board an example of integration of a production chain and highlighted the positioning of Uruguayan meat in the international market. “This year we are going to generate a record of exports, last year we reached 11,550 million dollars, this year we are going to be close to 14,500 million dollars,” said Delgado.

Ferber, meanwhile, explained that, at the request of Mides, the aforementioned board resolved a new support for the INDA dining rooms. It is a responsibility that the poorest population has access to this food, she said, and stressed the importance of meat for pregnant women and in the development of children.

He informed that the 300 tons will be delivered shortly, in 60 points of the country, and that they are equivalent to 1,400,000 dollars. In addition, he recalled that in 2020, 1,000,000 dollars were available for this plan and 1,400,000 in 2021.

Minister Lema highlighted the relevance of the donation to strengthen the system. He added that INAC’s support makes it possible to optimize portfolio resources to strengthen other lines of action. In addition, he announced that in April 2023 agile input distribution points will be implemented and the number of dining rooms will be expanded in Montevideo and the interior of the country. “This type of action allows us to strengthen the food system in our country and make it possible for us to have greater justice every day,” he considered.
