The operating companies Telefónica, Entel and Bitel have filed an amparo lawsuit in order to declare inapplicable the contracting or sale of mobile phone services on public roads (sale of street chips), reported the Private Investment Supervisory Body in Telecommunications (Osiptel).
Given this, the regulatory body, through a statement, pointed out that the sale of mobile chips in unauthorized places such as the contracting of mobile service on public roads, violates the rights of users and exposes people to being victims. of various criminal acts.
He also mentioned that it is important to keep in mind that this type of service promotes and facilitates crimes such as identity theft, extortion, fraud and robbery, as evidenced by reported cases and police investigations.
It should be remembered that the sale of mobile chips on public roads is an informal business over which there is no control, proof of which is the discovery of false data in the mobile service customer records of the operating companies.
“By opposing the provisions of the regulator, they state that their commercial purposes are above the safety of all Peruvians.”, the statement read.
On the other hand, Osiptel indicated that the amparo claim filed only reaffirms the position of the operating companies.
“This legal action reaffirms the reluctant attitude of the aforementioned operating companies and constitutes a threat to the security of all Peruvians, for which we regret that the plaintiff companies invest time, money and effort to justify the informal sale of mobile services.”, he pointed out.
