Of these, 5,643 are private MSMEs, 68 state-owned, and 59 non-agricultural cooperatives. In addition, 52% are reconversions of pre-existing businesses and 48% correspond to new ventures.
These economic actors will be able to generate 98,533 new jobs, according to MEP calculations, whose specialists report that of all those approved so far, 138 are part of local development projects and 13 are incubated in the Havana Science and Technology Park.
MSMEs and cooperatives include activities related to accommodation, beauty services and local development projects, however they do not have access to spheres considered strategic by the State such as health, telecommunications, energy, defense and the media. .
They can be state, private or mixed, and are recognized as an economic unit with legal personality with its own characteristics. This type of economic actor coexists with the socialist state company -the main one for the State in the Cuban communist system-, non-agricultural cooperatives and self-employment.
