In the midst of the debate on the electoral reform of President López Obrador, the INE budget has been under public scrutiny, but for the councilors it must be understood that it is more than an institution that organizes elections.

In addition, it is responsible for supervising the political parties, the candidates and the National Political Groups (APN), hence the budget that is granted annually is duly destined to fulfill the purposes conferred by law.
The Political Expansion columnist, Carlos Bravo Regidor, points out that tasks and tasks have been added to the INE, the same ones that the deputies implemented, but now they reproach him for giving him more budget to execute them.
“For decades it has been an institution that, for doing its job well, has been entrusted with more and more functions and, therefore, has been allocated more budget; now, however, it is accused of being a bureaucratic and expensive.
“It would seem, in conclusion, that it is precisely because the INE has done its job so well that now they want to reform it: not so that it can do it better, but so that it can no longer do it the way it has done,” says Bravo Regidor.
Who allocates the INE budget?
The General Council of the INE is in charge of approving the budget project with the money that it will request for the fiscal year of the following year, for an amount of more than 14 thousand 437.9 million pesos, including the amount that corresponds to the seven parties. The Ministry of Finance receives this document and is the one that delivers to the Chamber the Draft Expenditure Budget of the Federation (PPEF), which includes the resources requested by all public entities: government agencies, Powers of the Union and autonomous bodies, such as the institute itself.
Once this is done, the Chamber is in charge of approving or making modifications to the Budget Project and, therefore, of allocating the resources to the INE.
The Chamber of Deputies made a cut of 4,475 million pesos, with which it will have resources for about 11 thousand millions of pesos. This, not counting the 6 thousand 233 million pesos that are destined to the seven registered national political parties: PAN, PRI, PRD, PT, PVEM, MC and Morena.
The amount that will be cut from the INE is equivalent to the precautionary budget that the councilors endorsed for the organization of an eventual Popular Consultation for next year, which, in the event that the legal term of November 30 expires without this exercise being called , would be returned in full and immediately to the Treasury of the Federation.
