In Peru, the industries of the various sectors use, in at least one of their processes, bearings; Only in mining, bearings are present throughout the process, from start to finish, that is, in grinding equipment, pumping equipment, mobile equipment, etc.
Thus, the remanufacturing of bearings is presented as a clean and intelligent solution that substantially prolongs its useful life, reduces costs and delivery times, in addition, it requires less energy consumption that contributes to reducing the environmental impact.
This was indicated by Ljubica Rodríguez, responsible for the Development of Industrial Products and Circular Economy Strategy for the Andean Region of SKF, who pointed out that this process – capable of returning a product to a state of quality equivalent to a new product – helped industries Peruvian companies to reduce their operating costs and meet their sustainability commitments.
“From 2018 to today, we have remanufactured in our Solution Factory (located in the city of Arequipa) around 120 bearings that weigh more than 3 tons each, more than half of which have been repaired in the last two years. Thanks to this work, we have helped Peruvian industries stop emitting almost 1,400,000 kg of CO2, that is, more than a thousand tons,” Rodríguez said.
He indicated that this data is based on the analysis of the life cycle of matter, taking into account the emission factors of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, an international standard for raising awareness of CO2 emissions.
Regarding deliveries and operating costs, Rodríguez pointed out that remanufacturing was positioned during the pandemic as an alternative for the sector – which prevented companies from stopping – achieving deliveries that went from 24 weeks to 1 and with savings of 50% per team. .
Sustainability Route
In order to promote the circular economy and the reduction of the carbon footprint in the Peruvian industry, SKF Peru promotes “The Sustainability Route”, an initiative that was launched within the framework of the recent Perumin Mining Convention.
“We have proposed this route because we believe it is important to learn more about the guidelines, parameters and standards of the products and services that are achieved with remanufacturing for the benefit of the Peruvian industry,” said the executive.
He also added that this initiative will be open all year round with the aim of including more people in guided tours.
Data:
- SKF set itself the corporate objective of reaching 2030 with zero carbon emissions in all its factories worldwide. In addition, they hope to reach 2050 together with their suppliers with this goal.
- SKF plans to close the year with a discussion that analyzes the impact of remanufacturing in the national industry. The event will be held in a hybrid way during the first week of December.
