The states asked today (10) that the Ministry of Health distribute doses of the pediatric vaccine against covid-19 to all children between 6 months and 2 years of age. In a note, the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) made an appeal for the folder to expand the recommendation of the immunizing agent in this age group.
This Thursday, the Ministry of Health started dispensing doses of Pfizer’s Comirnaty pediatric vaccine for children with comorbidities between 6 months and 3 years. In all, 1 million doses were sent to the states and the Federal District. However, vaccination for all persons in the age group is authorized by Anvisa since the 16th of September.
“Conass defends the immediate purchase of sufficient doses to vaccinate the entire age group incorporated and vaccination is offered to this group without restrictions such as that defined in Technical Note nº 114/2022 – DEIDT/SVS/MS, in which it included only children with comorbidities”, asked the state health secretaries, in a note signed by the president of Conass and secretary of Espírito Santo, Nésio Fernandes de Medeiros Júnior.
The text quoted the InfoGripe Bulletin, published today by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), which pointed out that children up to 4 years old are currently the group at greatest risk for covid-19, considering the population up to 60 years of age. According to the bulletin, the disease is expanding in the adult population in four states: Amazonas, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo, at risk of spreading to children.
The president of Conass also highlighted that the expansion of immunization for all children of this age group is also defended by entities such as the Brazilian Society of Immunizations (SBIm) and the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP), as well as by all units of the Federation. . “This institutional position was expressed in all forums with the participation of Conass representatives”, he says.
